Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimultion (TENS)

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses mild electrical impulses delivered through small electrodes placed on the skin to help manage pain and reduce muscle discomfort. Individuals living with neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, or brain injury may experience chronic pain, muscle tightness, or spasticity that can interfere with movement and daily activities. TENS works by stimulating sensory nerves, which can help decrease pain perception, promote relaxation, and in some cases assist with the temporary reduction of muscle overactivity and spasticity. As part of a comprehensive neurological physiotherapy program, TENS may be used alongside exercise, stretching, mobility training, and other therapeutic interventions to improve comfort, enhance participation in rehabilitation, and support greater function and quality of life.
