Discover the freedom of movement in water!
At Neuro Zone, we believe rehabilitation should be effective, empowering, and enjoyable. Aquatic therapy offers a unique opportunity to move, strengthen, and practise skills in ways that may be difficult or even impossible on land.
Whether your goal is to improve walking, build strength, increase mobility, or simply enjoy moving again, aquatic therapy can open up a whole new world of possibilities
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy (also known as aqua therapy, pool therapy or hydroptherapy) is physical therapy that is performed in water.
The unique properties of water make it an excellent environment for neurological rehabilitation. Buoyancy helps support your body weight, reducing the effects of gravity and allowing you to move more freely. Water also provides natural resistance, making it possible to strengthen muscles, improve balance, and challenge coordination in new ways.
For some individuals, the pool offers opportunities to practise movements they are unable to perform on land, such as standing, stepping, walking, or moving their arms and legs with greater independence.
Best of all, aquatic therapy is FUN!
What is Aquatic Therapy?
We bring mobility to you at the pool!
As a mobile physiotherapy clinic, we provide aquatic therapy at community recreation centres and suitable residential pools throughout the Greater Victoria Area. Our physiotherapists and kinesiologists work with you to find an accessible pool that meets your needs. Aquatic therapy offers many benefits for individuals living with neurological and physical conditions, including, but not limited to:
Greater freedom of movement: Buoyancy supports body weight, making movements easier to initiate and perform.
Improved strength and endurance: Water provides gentle, adjustable resistance for strengthening and cardiovascular exercise.
Balance and walking practice: The support of water creates opportunities to challenge balance and practise functional movements.
Reduced stress on joints: Buoyancy decreases weight-bearing forces, making exercise more comfortable.
Improved flexibility and relaxation: Warm water may help reduce muscle tension and make stretching more comfortable.
Reduced swelling: Hydrostatic pressure may help manage swelling in the legs and feet.
Increased confidence and independence: The pool can provide opportunities to experience movements and activities that are challenging on land.
Zero risk of falls!
